For me, it started with Take Me Out and This Fire, obviously the songs that got airplay back when they came bursting out of the gate. Not much else really got played from the first album over here...even Michael wasn't played on stations here (though it may have been on MTV in the wee hours, when MTV actually sometimes plays videos!) Actually I only remember seeing the video for Take Me Out...in fact, I barely even knew what the band looked like at the time! From the start, FF was a band whose music I loved and respected, though I wasn't a "fanatic" at that point. That continued when the second album and Do You Want To came out. To be honest, though, I didn't LOVE the second album right away. A couple of songs still don't resonate with me, but overall I've grown to love it. Tonight, though - ohhhh, Tonight. I still love the first album best, but Tonight is my go-to whenever I need a serious burst of energy. I loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove the sound of it, from beginning to end. I love how it's a cohesive piece - not a concept album, really, but something you can really listen to start to finish. I finally got to see them live a little over a year ago - can't believe it took me that long to get my ass to a show - but all I can say is, hook, line and sinker. I was IN. I've seen tons of shows, but FF blew me away completely. I've been in a Franzy daze ever since. And now I've had withdrawals for over a year. I'm DYING here! Hence the reminiscing....

I was round a mate's house in 2004 when I heard the first album and was intrigued by it. I bought a copy and haven't looked back since. I haven't been this in love an album since Pet Shop Boy's Please. I tried not to get obsessed with them but the Kentish Town Forum gig finally sealed the deal for me!

It's useless to try not to get obsessed with them, isn't it?

Take Me Out. Yeah it's the one, the one that infects your brain and once it's in your mind you've had it. When I first heard it I was struck by the contrast of how it started and then went off into a direction I wasn't expecting. It reminded me of Bohemian Rhapsody in a way. It wasn't until Do You Want To promos started up that I found myself being drawn in to this band and their infectious music. And like Lauz it was Alex's fault. I remember very clearly watching the biography channel and the making of the video. For some unknown reason I was completely transfixed by the guy with these gorgeous green eyes, sexy accent and mouth I couldn't take my eyes off. I loved the sound, loved the look and it suddenly made 'sense'.
I tried to get tickets to the Ally Pally gig/s but to no avail, by this time I was hooked. In February 06 I found and joined dot org and so began the fall into complete obsession with this band. Then when I read on a Thursday that they would be in Camden on my birthday the next Monday I knew I had to go. I took J along to the filming of the Album Chart show and she became hooked too. I had a really good feeling that I would get to meet them after - afterall it was my birthday - and so we waited... And on a freezing cold night I got to meet Bob, Paul, Nick and Alex. And as they were so lovely to us my belief and love for them grew ten fold that night. Along with just being in awe of Alex and being completely lovestruck lol
Then there was the Forum gig and after that mental night in august there was no turning back. Not that I'd want to mind, i've had some ameezing times, been to brilliant places and met some totally wicks people along the way. NME were right - this band has changed my life, and totally for the better.

They've changed my life in the sense that I realised it's ok to be a freak and an outsider. Something I've been viewed as for nearly all my life. It took me a long time to accept but reading Alexs pov on such things has helped me an immense amount. I'm different now, in what I feel is a good way. Yeah obsession like anything had many levels and can run deeply through you. It's strange but comforting in a way

I was still feeling that way in my early adult years tbh. Sometimes I still do now, particularly with regards to work but yes I know what you mean it's a very teenage thing innit. As regards the Alex thing, it be interesting to see/know how many people would be honest in admitting that they got into Franz because of him

I can honestly say Alex wasn't the reason I got into their music, as I liked them long before I even knew what they really looked like (other than the abstract TMO video). However, I completely cop to Alex being the reason I've become "obsessed" with them, because once I saw what he looked like, and especially when I saw him onstage, I was all in.

Great riffs, awesome singing and once I saw the pictures... very very sexy boys ;D
But I remember the day in 05 when I got their album, You Could Have It So Much Better, I got it on a whim... best whim EVER! After then I've been in a frenzy with them. Seeing them live will be the ultimate, but so far it isn't meant to be. But now I'm 18 and gonna be in a better location it will happen! ;D Here Franzy franzy fraaaannnzzzy!

When I heard the first album it was finally the music I was looking for. I had no idea what I was listening to before that. I was in the musical wilderness for ages. Franz have switched me onto other wonderful things such as Of Montreal. Thanks to them I fell in love with music again. Attachments:

Okay so don't laugh at me (or do, whatever) : I was 8 and I used to sit on the floor and watch MTV solidly for hours in 2004 when BAM! The Dark Of The Matinee came on. I just remember being very confused by it. Then some years later ( I can't remember when exactly) I went through an anime phase and Do You Want To was like, the credits song for one called Paradise Kiss. And somehow I mentally linked the two and managed to convince my friend to buy me "Franz Ferdinand" and "You Could Have It So Much Better". And now years later I have all 3 which are currently available and am more desperately than eagerly awaiting the 4th. (:

You're not that old I don't see a zimmer frame on your person. When I heard TMO in 04 I made my younger brother sing it with me in Acapella. It really really annoyed him. xD

YOU'RE LUCKY IF YOU FEEL OLD Plus you probably lived through some better years than the ones we have now. Gawssh. Feeling young is the absolute worst feeling in the world (or maybe I'm crazy). 15 is no fun.
